Around fifty automobiles have been covered with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were vandalized, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Police say they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other smeared cars and building exteriors in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police say early analysis indicate the liquid was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its origin; officials are presently not aware of any injuries in connection with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were working "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the public for details.
A high-ranking representative said the attack left him without words and had to be addressed promptly.
"This act hits the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, referring to the murder of nine victims by a assailant focusing on residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
