It's difficult for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The top summits have long been mastered.

This is the unit that has secured seven Cricket World Cups, along with an additional six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed nearly four years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The remaining milestones, those for the peak baggers, are all that remain for a team that has won it all.

That it took up to Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase above 300, regaining their record for the biggest in the female 50-over format, is, frankly, a compliment to the bowling attack that have worn canary yellow over the past 50 years.

It's difficult for their hitters to hold a record if not afforded the opportunity.

Finally, the result of Australia giving up 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy receiving a chance to deliver her latest masterpiece.

Initially recognized as the 19-year-old niece of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her country couldn't capture either of the T20 or ODI World Cups held the previous year and has seen it all through 15 successful years since.

A T20 championship victory came three months after her first appearance and seven international trophies have come from 10 tries across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India temporarily stopped the winning streak.

That loss "drove us to reevaluate our levels," Healy commented earlier.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the final and was declared player of the series. She guaranteed her country would not come up short.

The question of whether this latest epic knock topped that previous effort can be debated.

Some will argue the reasoning behind championship match pressure. Some might respond with the challenge that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What's clear is this hundred was far harder to predict.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 came as she led the batting statistics, but this innings followed six innings in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've been watching me in practice sessions, it has been a frustrating experience because I feel like I've had no rhythm at all," said Healy.

"Yet the moment you step out on the field, your fighting spirit take over and you simply focus on the competition."

Healy's fighting spirit has always been her key asset - and an invaluable trait in replacing iconic ex-skipper Meg Lanning.

She was troubled by India's emerging talent Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, out to the young fast bowler in each encounter, but this time it merely gave Healy's inspiration.

One run resulted off Gaud's first delivery and after that the batsman was on her way.

"The possibility to play and engage in competition with her and merely enjoy the moment in that regard, kind of motivated me," stated Healy.

She got to fifty in 35 balls - her fastest at the global tournament - and her hundred in 84 as she flogged anything short, scoring 21 fours and three big hits.

When she was dismissed Australia required another 66 at one run per ball - an achievable target now requiring a leisurely stroll.

"Chasing 330 runs is new territory so I'm pleased we have the assurance to accomplish that now," added Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to repeat it but, if necessary, we know we can succeed."

Those words will be the final thing rival teams at this championship need to hear.

In recent days a belief they will triumph from any situation has become more firm - this success following win against Pakistan by 107-run victory despite struggling at 76-7 at a certain moment.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a meeting with longtime competitors England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final berth may probably be guaranteed.

During that phase they were eliminated from the previous year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - a game Healy was absent due to damaged tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the inaugural occasion at a major tournament.

So strong is her resolve, she later said she wished she had played through the pain.

Yet even as she later admitted those fitness problems have delayed plans to retire, this tournament is anticipated as her concluding event as leader in one-day cricket and she is still to achieve a world championship as skipper.

Victory in India would bring her to the top of her final mountain.
